TEHRAN, Iran (Reuters) — One of the helicopters carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made a rough landing on Sunday during a visit to East Azerbaijan province, state media reported. The incident occurred near Azarshahr, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of the provincial capital of Tabriz.
Raisi was in the area to inaugurate a dam project with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. According to state television, the president and other officials were on board the helicopter when it made the hard landing. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Rescue teams have been dispatched to the site, and Raisi has been taken to a nearby hospital for examination. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.
