MacBook Pro 13" (A1278) Display Replacement Guide

Introduction

This guide will show you how to replace the display on a MacBook Pro 13" (A1278).

Tools

  • Phillips #00 screwdriver
  • T6 Torx screwdriver
  • Tri-point Y0 screwdriver
  • Spudger
  • iFixit opening tool

Parts

  • MacBook Pro 13" (A1278) Display Assembly

Step 1: Remove the bottom case

1. Shut down your MacBook Pro and place it upside down on a flat surface.
2. Remove the ten Phillips #00 screws securing the bottom case.
3. Lift the bottom case up and away from the MacBook Pro.

Step 2: Disconnect the battery

1. Use the spudger to pry the battery connector up from its socket on the logic board.
2. Fold the battery connector out of the way.

Step 3: Remove the display assembly

1. Use the T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the display assembly to the upper case.
2. Carefully lift the display assembly up and away from the upper case.

Step 4: Replace the display

1. Connect the new display assembly to the upper case.
2. Tighten the four T6 Torx screws to secure the display assembly.
3. Fold the battery connector back into place and use the spudger to press it down into its socket on the logic board.

Step 5: Reassemble the MacBook Pro

1. Place the bottom case on the MacBook Pro and align it with the screws.
2. Tighten the ten Phillips #00 screws to secure the bottom case.
3. Turn the MacBook Pro over and open it up.

Step 6: Test the display

1. Turn on your MacBook Pro and test the display to make sure it is working properly.
