4 Killed, 1 Injured in NYC Subway Shooting
Four people were shot and killed on a subway train near Chicago on Wednesday, May 12, 2023. According to ABC 7 Chicago, the shooting occurred on a Red Line train near the 95th Street station in the Chatham neighborhood at approximately 10:40 a.m. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, and the train was evacuated at the next station.
The Victims
The victims have been identified as three women and one man. Their names have not yet been released. The one surviving victim, a 62-year-old woman, is currently in critical condition. According to CBS News, the victims were all innocent bystanders.
The Suspect
The suspect, a 37-year-old man, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. His name has not been released. According to CNN, the suspect has a history of mental illness.

We will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrator to justice," said Mayor Lori Lightfoot. According to The Chicago Sun Times, Lightfoot also called for increased mental health services in the city.
