SYSTEM OF A DOWN Co-Founder SHAVO ODADJIAN Gives Thumbs Up To Cover
Heavy Metal Version Of 1996 Pop Hit Has Over 100K Views On YouTube
SHAVO ODADJIAN, co-founder of heavy metal band SYSTEM OF A DOWN, has given his seal of approval to a metal cover of the SPICE GIRLS' 1996 pop hit "Wannabe."
The cover was created by multi-instrumentalist and YouTuber ANDREW BAENA, who shared it on his channel on JUNE 16. It quickly went viral, amassing over 100,000 views in just a few days.
ODADJIAN took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the cover, writing, "This is f**king awesome! This is the heaviest 'Wannabe' cover I've ever heard." BAENA was ecstatic about ODADJIAN's praise, responding, "You have no idea how much this means to me!"
The cover stays true to the original's melody and lyrics, but it adds a heavy metal twist with distorted guitars, pounding drums, and BAENA's signature shredding guitar solos.
Many fans have expressed their love for the cover, with some calling it "brilliant" and "the best thing I've heard all week." Others have praised BAENA's musicianship, saying that he "absolutely killed it" and "made this classic song his own."
